It doesn't seem possible that I have been working with Farm Credit for an entire month! Time truly does fly when you're having fun!
So much has happened in the last few weeks, Farm Credit has definitely kept me on my toes. I have been traveling to conferences, meeting with customers, and working on a project with the other interns. All of these activities have been engaging and fun, but also served as learning experiences as well!
I, along with a few other interns and new hires from Carolina Farm Credit, traveled to Columbia, SC, to participate in the AgFirst Intern and New Hire Training. This training was led by Ronnie Hucks, Vice President Relationship Lending. He was an amazing speaker that kept me engaged and interactive for two days. During our training, we discussed the history of Farm Credit, patronage refunds, the "5 C's of Credit", and financial statements. The topic that interested me the most was when we reviewed financial statements and tax returns. Mr. Hucks let us break into small groups and work on a loan case study. This was very hands-on and really gave me insight into financial analysis techniques!
My favorite part of our trip (besides the interesting sessions, of course!) was being able to spend time with the other Carolina Farm Credit employees and meeting employees from other Farm Credit associations within the AgFirst District. I was able to spend a lot of time with the other interns. It was great getting to know everyone, which will allow us to work better together in the future. It was amazing to see how friendly everyone was and how well they worked with each other, even though it was their first time meeting. It showed me that all Farm Credit employees, no matter which organization, have the same values. Everyone is passionate about agriculture and lending a helping hand to farmers and ranchers. This commonality shines through and allows complete strangers to work together seamlessly.
When I am not traveling to conferences or meetings, I am back home in the Sparta branch learning more and more each day! The employees here have become like family over the past month and are still very patient and encouraging while I ask them a million questions! I have been able to sit in on a couple of loan closings which has been extremely rewarding. Stacy and I worked diligently to complete the loan package and then at the closing all of our work came together to help jump-start a borrower's dream. Seeing the look of happiness on their face made all of the tedious work worth it. I am anxious to see what the next month will hold for me here at Carolina Farm Credit!
