The Farm Credit System is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. This is a milestone that very few businesses achieve. As with any enduring business, our history is filled with great struggles and great success. We have learned from both and desire to continue to deliver an exceptional customer experience for our members.
The celebration of this anniversary was the theme for our Customer Appreciation Events recently held throughout our territory. I hope you had the opportunity to attend one. As part of our celebration, we gave away a new Kubota ATV. The winner was Bill Anderson from the Shelby Branch. While we cherish our heritage and longevity, we are focused on the future. We want to ensure that your cooperative is strong and positioned to provide lending and other services for the next 100 years. We’ve made many changes in the last couple of years and will be ready to make more changes if we believe it will enhance our ability to support our farmers and rural North Carolina.
The state of agriculture in North Carolina is shaping up to be a mixed bag. Many commodities are suffering from low prices, while others are about the same as last year. The weather always plays a role in a season and it has impacted crops in areas that were too wet to plant. One thing is constant – Carolina Farm Credit is here in the good times and the bad. Our staff understands the risks that you face and are here to work with you through the ups and downs. Communication is key. Early communication with your loan officer gives us more options to work with you during a time of stress. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us to see what can be done to help your operation.
We recently lost one of our employees who died unexpectedly from a heart attack. Farm Credit is a family made up of our employees and members. This was very evident in the passing of Penny O’Connell, a Loan Specialist in our Asheville Branch. Her funeral service was attended by many employees and members from the Asheville Branch. Her family was overwhelmed by the number of people who were associated with Farm Credit that came to comfort them and share how much they loved her. It reminded me of how privileged we are to get to work with you - people who truly value life, hard work and integrity. Thank you for allowing Carolina Farm Credit to serve your lending needs.
