I am Briana Holness, a senior majoring in Agricultural Education with a concentration in Agribusiness and Marketing. I am a student at The Illustrious North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University “Aggie Pride”.
My passion for agriculture is unimaginable. I am currently the NC A&T Collegiate FFA President for 2016-2017 academic school year. As an officer, I had the pleasure of attending the National FFA Convention & Expo in Louisville, Kentucky in October of 2015. I was able to connect with Mrs. Sarah Rachels at the Farm Credit booth and talk with her about internships with Carolina Farm Credit. After speaking with her and scheduling an interview, I walked away thinking Carolina Farm Credit is one big happy family and I would love to have an internship with them!
When I was told I received the internship and would be placed in Brown Summit I thought, “What is in Brown Summit other than Farm Credit?”. As I arrived to training in Statesville, NC, Rosa and Sarah from Human Resources were there with open arms. They stated “while working with Farm Credit you will get fed” and we had an awesome lunch. After arriving to Brown Summit bright and early I realized there were not any fast food restaurants around so what was I going to eat for lunch. Mrs. Wanda soon said, "We are ordering lunch, go ahead and make your order.". I’m reflecting back on what Mrs. Rosa said and I’m thinking “Boy, was she right!”. Soon after I got to meet everyone and I knew this was the right place for me.
Over the course of time, I had the opportunity to shadow Mrs. Wanda as she input several loans into the system; I enjoy working with Mrs. Wanda. She is so loving and caring. Everyone in the Brown Summit office has taken me under their wings and showed me the routine. It is a true pleasure working side by side with individuals that care about your success just as much as you do. I am so happy to be placed in this office. On the day the interns came together with the regional managers, I let one of the girls know that Fred was my regional manager and he is Mr. Farm Credit. Anything that you do not know about Farm Credit he has all the answers to. On my next trip, I got a chance to enjoy the farm tours. This was an amazing experience getting to see the cattle, land and the awesome greenhouses.
The summer is just beginning and I have been exposed to several projects and met a lot of wonderful people. Even though I don’t have an agriculture background, after interning with Carolina Farm Credit for over three weeks I know what it means to be Farmer Strong.
